Common Questions
What areas of Norfolk do you cover?
Handyman Norfolk covers the whole of Norfolk. We work regularly in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn, Thetford, Dereham, Wymondham, Attleborough, Diss, Fakenham, Cromer, Sheringham, Swaffham, Aylsham, Holt, Wells-next-the-Sea, Hunstanton, Watton, Wroxham, North Walsham, Downham Market and all the smaller villages and hamlets in between. If your postcode begins with NR, PE30–PE38 or IP21–IP25, we can almost certainly help.
How do I get a free quote?
Email info@handymannorfolk.co.uk with a brief description of the work, your postcode and any photographs that would help us understand the job. We aim to reply within one working day with a price and a likely start date. For larger jobs we will arrange a free site visit at a time that suits you.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. Quotes are completely free, with no call-out charge and no obligation. You only pay if you decide to go ahead with the work, and the price you pay will be the price we agreed in writing.
Are you insured?
Yes — every job we do is covered by full public liability insurance. We are happy to send a copy of our insurance certificate before starting work if you would like to see it.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes. If anything we have fitted develops a fault that is down to our workmanship, we will come back and put it right at no charge. We work to a standard we are proud of, but if there is ever a problem we will sort it out.
How quickly can you start a job?
For smaller jobs we can often start within the same week. For larger jobs (full kitchen fits, bathroom refits, decorating projects) we usually have a wait of one to four weeks depending on the season. We will always tell you up front what the realistic start date looks like.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes — small jobs are very much our thing. We genuinely enjoy working through a list of odd jobs in an afternoon. Hanging pictures, fitting curtain poles, easing sticky doors, fitting cat flaps and replacing toilet seats are all bread-and-butter for us.
Do you take on big jobs?
Yes. Full kitchen fits, complete bathroom refits, garage conversions, loft conversions, large extensions and full house refurbishments are all part of our work. Where a job needs a specialist (Gas Safe engineer, structural engineer, registered electrician for notifiable work) we manage that for you and coordinate the whole project.
Are your prices fixed or by the hour?
It depends on the job. For well-defined work (fit a kitchen, refit a bathroom, paint a room, replace a fence) we offer fixed prices agreed in writing before any work begins. For open-ended odd-job work we charge by the half-day or day at honest local rates, which is usually far better value than per-job pricing for small items.
Do you supply materials, or do I?
Either — whichever you prefer. We are happy to source materials at trade prices and add them to the invoice, or we are happy to fit materials you have bought yourself. For specialist items (kitchens, bathroom suites, tiles) we usually recommend you choose the brand and style and we will collect them or have them delivered.
Do you take card payments?
Yes — we accept bank transfer, debit card and credit card. We do not take cash for any job.
Are you VAT-registered?
Please ask us when you request your quote and we will let you know. VAT, where applicable, will always be shown clearly on your invoice.
Can you do work at second homes and holiday lets?
Yes — a significant part of our work is for owners of second homes and holiday lets along the {COUNTY} coast and in the Broads. We can hold a key, deal directly with cleaners and changeover staff, send detailed reports with photographs, and coordinate access for deliveries.
Do you work for landlords and property managers?
Yes. We work regularly with landlords and letting agents across {COUNTY}, handling ongoing repairs and maintenance for individual properties or whole portfolios. We can deal directly with tenants where you would prefer, send detailed reports and invoice on a per-job basis or monthly in arrears.
Do you provide an emergency call-out service?
We do not currently provide a 24-hour emergency service. For burst pipes, gas leaks, electrical emergencies or break-ins please call a dedicated emergency tradesman or your insurer's emergency line. For everything else, email us and we will get back to you within one working day.
Do you offer pensioner or veteran discounts?
Yes — we offer a small loyalty discount for repeat customers and we are happy to discuss reduced rates for community projects, charity work and small repairs for elderly residents living alone. Please mention your situation when you request your quote.
